Interventional Radiology
Interventional radiology is a rapidly growing area of medicine that uses minimally- invasive radiologic procedures to treat a wide variety of diseases. Interventional radiologists are highly-trained, board-certified physicians who specialize in targeted treatments using the latest in imaging technology for guidance. These treatments – which often replace traditional open surgical procedures – usually involve fewer risks, less pain, and less recovery time.
As a part of a larger, multi-disciplinary team, our interventional radiologists provide expert consultation to medical and surgical specialists in an effort to provide patients with precise interpretation of diagnostic images to assure the highest standard of care. Interventional radiology is a medical specialty that is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists and the American Medical Association.
New CT scanner with dose reduction software at Lakeland Hospital, Watervliet. This new CT scanner exposes patients to less radiation while providing doctors with clearer images to help with diagnoses, according to researchers at the National Institutes of Health. The new machine has five times as many detectors as most machines, which means that more of an organ can be captured at a time, decreasing the number of passes of the scanner required.
